Class Combination

Class Combination

10/5/2010

It was great to see everyone's projects today. What an amazing amount of talent. I know everyone learned something from this. I know I did. I now have a bunch of tools to make polymer clay stuff. I do beading, so can now make my own beads. I got a book on Polymer Clay mileflora art and beads. I've been experimenting. It's fun, and reminds me of being in elementary school. Clay was always one of my favorite activities.

I also do mosaics and had a book for months about making my own tiles. It looked like some great fun and cool projects, and now I have the tools, I just need the time.
My mosaic class starts up again this Saturday. I know my instructor will be pleased that I finished the Madonna. It only took me 150 hours. I need his help to cut it to size so I can get it framed and then start exhibiting it so I can sell it. It was one of those things I just had to do to get it out of my system so I could move on to more creative projects.

After only getting a few hours sleep lately, I must say good night.

Frustration and time management

October 3, 2010

Update:  I made an A- on the branding project.

Packaging project continued.  I sculpted an action figure that could hold the pen in it's backpack/sling.  It was horrible and looked like the Hunchback of Notra Dame or Igor.  So almost $100.00 later, I now own a pasta machine, sculpting tools, and two books on polymer clay.  About 15 hours after getting home with my purchases, I created a new and better action figure that could hold the pen in it's backpack and stay standing up at the same time to act as a pen-holder.

Desk crit:  I'm right on track.  Now I have to make at least one more action figure.  It doesn't have to be the same character, but it too must be from the Dragon Ball Z series and be pen holder.  The final presentation is on Tuesday morning (10/5/2010).  The presentation will include 2 Dragon Ball Z action figure pen holders, some sort of box to protect them during transport, and associated graphics to promote the product as a part of it's packaging.

We have family visiting from Seattle which is very special because our next closest family, geographically are at least 1,000 miles away.  They are here visiting us, and my sister-in-law's brother for the weekend.  I sent them off to spend the day with Walter, while I worked on my project.  I managed to just get the second action figure completed by the time they got back at 8:00 p.m..

Saturday, was spent visiting and going to Walter's photo shoot at BoConcept in Tysons Galleria.  It was quite the event.  Walter's non-profit organization was doing a 3 for $30 event.  He takes three portaits in the BoConcept store that is featuring his photographs for a donation of $30.00.  All the proceeds go to a charity.  If you hire him for a personal project, you neogotiate a fee and it all goes to the charity of your choice.  http://www.shootforchange.com/.  We were there to support him and spend time with family.  We met some wonderful people, including the manager, Peter, who when hearing that I was an Interior Design grad student, said I should come and work for him. The way my projects are going, I won't have time until I graduate.  I also met Marissa, in charge of communications for the DC chapter of ASID.  She is looking forward to my entry into their logo redesign competition.  Good networking, but not getting my project done.

Now it's Sunday afternoon.  I was up hours before everyone else working on my the graphics for the exterior packaging.  I had a heck of a time getting the boxes (exterior packaging) to stay together.  I'm still not sure they will, but I'm letting them dry right now.  My husband took care of breakfast for our visitors, took them to church, and sightseeing in DC.  I hear them upstairs, so I need to finish this blog now.

I know I wanted to be challenged and that's why I selected GW's Interior Design program, but, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed right now.
